Transition from childhood to adolescence begins with puberty. Physical growth is stimulated by pituitary gland. Hypothalamus releases hormones like testosterone and estrogen, which develop primary and secondary sex traits in boys and girls. Primary sex traits changes in the body that are part of reproduction (enlarging neitals, ability to ejaculate) Secondary sex traits changes in the body that are not part of the reproduction (growth of pubic hair, increased breast size, increased muscle mass) Menarche the onset of menstruation, occurs around age 12. The start of menarche is influenced by nutrition, genetics, physical activity levels, and illness. Spermarche their first ejaculation of sperm, is at the age of 14. Boys are considered to reach sexual maturity at spermarche. Overtime, the average poverty ages have become younger and younger as 9 year olf signs show sign of maturity. When females develop earlier than average, they have to cope with being tested and having their bodies as objects to seek attention.
