Document Summary

Generalizing results to other populations and settings. Volunteers - how the study is advertised attracts different volunteers. Sex considerations given the ratio of males/females, the study may not be generalizable. Cultural considerations participants before used to be only white, now are becoming more ethically diverse. Certain operational definitions are grounded in cultural meanings ex, self esteem. Problem of generalization can be thought of as an interaction in a factorial design. Interaction occurs when a relationship between variable exists under one conditions but not the other or when the nature of the relationships is different in one condition than in another. There a lot of rat verities now to study different cognitive processes. University students are diverse, humans, and generalizable. Warm friendly researcher, yields different results to unfriendly experimenter. Use two or more experimenters, both female and male, to conduct research in order to avoid problems. Pretests limit the ability to generalize to populations that did not receive a pretest.
