Matching on personality only works if people telling the truth about themselves. Trait theories of personality offer a collection of viewpoints about the fundamental building blocks of human nature. Trait theories share 3 important assumptions about personality traits, which form the basic foundation for trait psychology: meaning individual differences, stability or consistency over time, consistency across situations. Trait psychologists interested in they ways in which people differ from each other. Any way in which they differ can be potentially identified as a personality trait. Trait psychology also called differential psychology because of its emphasis on the study of differences among people. Also study other individual differences such as abilities, aptitudes, intelligence. Trait perspective concerned with accurate measurements takes on quantitative approach which emphasizes how much a given individual differs from average.
