Personality disorders are heterogeneous group of disorders that long-standing, pervasive and inflexible patterns of behaviour and inner experience. Deviate from the expectatio(cid:374)s of perso(cid:374)(cid:859)s (cid:272)ulture impair social and occupational functioning failure to be adaptive in different situations and contexts (e. g. being on best behaviour on a date) To form stable, integrated and coherent representations of self and others (to see yourself and others as they really are) To develop capacity for intimacy (to have positive inter-relationships) To engage in prosocial and cooperative behaviours (to function adaptively in society) Personality disorders occur when there is a failure to manage these life tasks.
