Chromosomes: thread like structures located in the central portion or nucleus of a cell that carry genetic info to help direct development. 46 pair of chromosomes come from half and half father and mother, this pairing is possible because each chromosome is homologous to one of the chrosomoes contributed by the mothrs egg. During meiosis all cells replicate themselves as if they were about to undergo mitosis or normal cell division.
