PSYB65H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Peripheral Nervous System, Sensory Deprivation, Human Brain
Document Summary
Brain and behaviour have evolved together, one is responsible for the other. The human brain comprises two major sets of structures cerebrum and cerebellum. Cerebrum (forebrain): has nearly two symmetrical halves hemispheres on the left and right. Cerebrum is responsible for most of our conscious behaviours. Brainstem: responsible for most of our unconscious behaviours. Cerebellum: specialized for learning and coordinating skilled movements. Major divisions of the human nervous system are composed of nerve cells (neurons) most directly control behaviour neurons in the brain communicate with one another, with sensory receptors in the skin, with muscles, and with internal body organs. Most of the connections between brain and rest of body are made through the spinal cord spinal cord descends from the brainstem through a canal in the backbone. Central nervous system (cns): made up by the brain and spinal cord that mediate behaviour.
