Document Summary

Sexual behaviour in many societies is a subject fraught with moral codes, taboos, norm expectations, religious injunctions, myths, and unscientific conclusions. Sex offenders often commit a variety of crime beyond sexual offences, especially in the case of rapists and child molesters. Sexual assault: encompasses a variety of behaviours that may or may not include penetration. Rape: penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim. Older definitions describe rape as carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will. Revised definition expands the term to include both male and female victims and offenders, and reflects the various forms of sexual penetration, including nonconsenting acts of sodomy and sexual assault w/ objects. It also includes the instances in which the victim is incapable of giving consent because of temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity (including drugs/alcohol)
