Heterosexual college women contend with public beliefs about womens sexuality that reinforce male dominance across both hook-ups and committed relationships. More privileged women struggle to meet gender and class guidelines for sexual behaviour placing them in double blinds. Less privileged women find the class beliefs of the university foreign to their sexual and romantic logics. Hooking up anything that happens outside the context of commitment. Hook-ups happen more often among those who know each other. Ongoing hook-ups sometimes became committed relationships and vice versa. Scholars have put more focus on how women view hook-ups as opposed to how men view them. Women find it rewarding but also sometimes confusing, hurtful and awkward. Women are more relationally oriented and men are more sexually adventurous. Women suffer the most damage from those with whom they are more intimate. Gender inequality in college sexuality is systemic.
