Clear alternative to heavy tone, fast vibrato & complicated style of coleman hawkins. Hawkins accented hard & often on main beat. Young accents off beat & lightly stress beat. Y ignored some notes in the chord & substitute with other notes, known as colour tone. Improvise long lines that had fresh expansive feeling instead of crowded feeling.
