Criminal justice system - the stages through which an offender passes, including: police, courts, corrections. Criminal justice scholars describe & analyze work of police, courts & correctional facilities. Intimate violence - crime that occurs in the context of familiarity (ex. Criminology - the study of the nature, extent, cause & control of criminal behaviour. Criminologist - one who brings objectivity & method to the study of crime & its consequences. Explain origin, extent & nature of crime in society. Criminology = body of knowledge regarding crime as a social phenomenon. It includes the scope of: making & breaking laws, reactions toward breaking of laws. Its objective is to develop a body of general & verified principles regarding the process of law, crime & treatment. Most importantly: the development of criminal law & its use to define crime, the cause of law violations & how criminal behaviour is controlled.
