If we encounter a familiar event, these schemas become active and they effect what we expect, what we pay attention to, and what we remember. Our memories of our own past are influenced by our motivation to view our self in a particular way i. e. our view of our self in the present. False memory: remembering events that did not occur or incorrectly remembering details of an event. Changing the wording affects what a person can remember. Misinformation effect: when info occurring after an event becomes part of your memory of that event. In the legal system, those who are part of the jury are asked not to read or watch anything about the case because it will lead to bias in their decision making.
