Flows: chapter 3 - mobility and inequality migration = movement of people in physical space mobility = movement of people in social space. Study people between imaginary locations - i. e. ; social classes, occupational statuses. Imagine we de ned 3 categories in social space: the working class, middle class, and upper class. In mobility we are interested in the ows between these locations and the stock of people who accumulate in each class because of these ows. Di usion: interested in spread or coverage achieved by ppl who ow out of each location and rate at which they ow out. Tl;dr: by studying mobility we want to learn bout the size and composition of di erent social classes and the links that tie members of these class together. Class mobility: marx - classes are historic actors. Rise and fall is the engine of human history. Dependent on economic growth - less growth, less mobility for all.
