Nuclear family: an adult male, an adult female, and their offspring. Extended family: multiple generations of adults living together with their spouses and children. Family orientation: the family into which one is born. Family of procreation: the family one creates by having children or adopting children. Economic family: a group of two or more persons who live in the same dwelling and are related to each other by blood, marriage, common-law, or adoption. Looks at individual lives and how e are in relation to social institutions. Concerned with overall consensus, equilibrium, and harmony. Family is understood as a major societal institution: individuals in families provided with love, emotional and economic support, and sexual expression, children are socialized and learn values and norms. Instrumental roles: responsible for engaging in paid labour outside the home. Expressive role: responsible for the emotional well-being of family members and the socialization of children.
