Has become more of a celebratory event than a protective event. Now a lot like a u. s. baby shower. Two sex cells (sperm and egg) come together to form a zygote. Ovum: egg cell released monthly from ovaries; released roughly half way between two menstrual cycles. Fallopian tube: tube between the ovary and uterus through which the ovum travels. If egg cell is fertilized by sperm, it eventually implants itself into the wall of the uterus. Human body has 46 chromosomes (23 pairs); each are split into segments called genes, and contain genetic coding. Sperm and eggs are the only cells that do not have the 46 chromosomes; collectively called gametes or germ cells. Meiosis: gamete cell division; each new cell receives only one chromosome from each pair.
