Says there has been a turn to a dark anthropology which focuses on the harsh dimensions of social life (power, domination, inequality, oppression) And subjective experiences of these dimensions in the form of depression and hopelessness. She considers range of work in reaction to this - of an anthropology of the good. And what might be thought of as a different kind of anthropology of the good, namely new directions in the anthropology of critique, resistance, and activism. In period of mid 1980s to mid 2010s neoliberalism was expanding rapidly over the globe. The imf and world bank pursued neoliberal economic policies that essentially crushed the economies of some of the smaller and poorer nations of the world. Anthropologists have documented creative adaptation to neoliberalism and how some countries are doing better than others.
