When colonialism reached its end in the 60s some people rejected anthropology and said there was no use for it anymore. Eldwork was said to other" the people we studied. Now there"s been a shift to postmodernists. Says the discipline has never been a uni ed eld. Seth holmes reply: anthropology and its contact zones. He says we are taking nader"s call to perform vertical slices very seriously. Anthropology is going up, down, to the side, everywhere. They are doing para-ethnography which could be seen as a horizontal slice. Some institutions are threatening to eliminate anthropology departments or move it into sociology or broad social science departments.
