Biology 2485B Chapter Notes -Dc Motor, Potentiometer, Dynamometer

30 views6 pages

Document Summary

The objective is to study the characteristics of shunt and series dc motors. For the first half of the experiment, half the lab groups will work with the shunt motor while the other groups will work the series motor. Afterwards, the groups will change workstations to complete the experiment. All experiments will be carried out using a fractional horsepower dynamometer test bed. Note: when starting a shunt motor, the field circuit must be energized first and then the armature circuit, or both circuits may be energized simultaneously. If the armature circuit is excited with no field, the motor may accelerate to a very high speed and high currents will be drawn: connect the d. c. shunt motor as shown in figure 1. F2: be sure to check meter ranges: Ammeter in the armature circuit 20 a dc. Ammeter in the field circuit 200 ma dc. Breaking current of the dynamometer: 0 on medium scale.
