In-class: the bugs: overuse of antibiotics is a huge problem. Think the animal feed causes super bugs (antibiotic resistant). A farmer goes to the feed mill and can tell what to throw in to make the animals bigger: common side effects of antibiotics are gi problems: diarrhea, nausea, yeast infection. Incontinence increases risk for breakdown: activity: bed rest vs bedridden, nutrition, friction and shear: clients need to move within bed. This is pulling them up the bed causing friction: make sure you clean before you culture, diabetes brings delayed wound healing, medical vs surgical: surgical dressing for a surgical wound. Medical pressure ulcer which is colonized, not much risk in terms of exposure to bacteria. Primary or secondary intention or healing: pressure ulcers can be staged, not other wounds, stage 1: mildest, redness that is not going away. Think of the lines on your body from your sheets.
