The ruler maintains control by manipulating the preferences o the ruled so that they reflect the it interests of the ruler. Pluralism and lukes"s three dimensions of power: critics of pluralism suggest that pluralist methodology is more than likely to generate pluralist conclusions. History of democracy: for much of its history, democracy was seen in a negative light, the turning point came in the late 18th century. American revolutions, democracy was cast in a more positive light, partly because of the influence of the us constitution of the great law of the six nations confederacy.
