Document Summary
Specific areas receive from sensory receptors with exception from smell and taste each sense has its own place in the cortex. Mainly fingers , lips and tongue lies beside the motor cortex allowing for overlap between the two regions. One woman could not recognize objects to define what they were but when asked to pick up the object she could do that. Leaves primary visual cortex in occipital lobe and divides in 2 directions. 1 upwards towards parietal lobe (dorsal- towards top-dorsal brain) Spatial recognition and orientation some is sent downwards into ventral stram recognition of the object hearing and sight are well represented in the cortex. There are neurons that respond to specific stimulus. Areas that govern speech are located within the cortex. Wernick"s area in the temporal lobe is involved in language and comprehension damage of this region causes patients to not be able to undestand written language or speech.
