Document Summary
Pseudoscience incorporates astrology, graphology, rumpology, etc. and often has a lack of scientific evidence. Basic research the quest for knowledge purely for its own sake. Applied research is designed to solve specific practical problems i. e. to describe how people behave and to identify the factors that influence or cause a particular type of behaviour. Perspective a theoretical vantage point from which to analyze behaviour and its causes. Advances occur as perspectives change existing beliefs are challenged, a debate ensues, and scientists seek new evidence to resolve the debate. Mind-body dualism (descartes) the belief that the mind is a spiritual entity not subject to physical laws that govern the body. It implies that no amount of research on the physical body (including the brains) could ever hope to unravel the mysteries of the nonphysical mind. Monism (hobbes) mind and body are one; the mind is not a separate spiritual entity.
