In turn, scar tissue obstructs blood flow and impairs the liver"s function: long-term alcohol abuse also harms the brain. 5 drinks/day: alcohol use disorders are more than 2x as common among males as females, although men are at higher risk for alcohol use disorders, women may be more vulnerable to the negative health consequences of heavy drinking.
