Outline: auditory localization, binaural cues, monaural cues, physiology of auditory localization, auditory pathway and cortex. Itd tuning curves (birds vs. mammals: what and where pathways, auditory scene analysis, location, onset time, pitch and timbre, continuity, experience, auditory occlusion, connections of hearing and vision, perceptions, physiology. Auditory localization: auditory scene, all the sound entering the ears during the current interval of time. Itd is larger as sound source is located more toward the side of your hear. Itd works better for low-frequency sounds than for high-frequency ones. Ild is more effective for high-frequency sounds than low-frequency sounds: e. g. 3db difference for 500hz tone, from directly to the side; 20db difference for 6000hz tone. Itd and ild complement each other in terms of providing information about azimuth i. e. itd = low frequency; ild = high frequency: but both are still somewhat ambiguous for the precise location confusion.
