Depression, anxiety: not all behaviours are distressing, ex. Behaviour is abnormal if it occurs infrequently in the population regulate: easy to set line for diagnoses. Behaviour is abnormal if it is causing distress to the person: easy to identify, accounts for patients beliefs/feelings.
