Document Summary

The relationship between sociosexuality and rosenberg"s self esteem scale. Casual sex has become a more common occurrence in modern society. The affect that sociosexuality has on an individual"s self-esteem is a controversial issue. Sociosexuality corresponds to one"s attitude towards casual sex. It is divided into unrestricted, where one has a positive and liberal attitude towards casual sex and restricted, where one has a conservative or negative attitude (simpson & gangestad, 1991). In order to measure self-esteem, the most common scale used across most studies is the rosenberg"s self-esteem scale. This is a 9-point scale that measures the agreeability of an individual to statements of self-satisfaction and attitudes towards themselves. Some of the statements include i take a positive attitude towards myself and on the whole, i am satisfied with myself (rosenberg, 1965). Most studies point to a positive correlation between sociosexuality and an individual"s self-esteem. There is many previous experiments that have been performed in this field.
