Sociology: the systematic study of human behavior in social context. Social causes are distinct from physical and emotional. Suicide is the supremely anti and non social event and is condemned. When ppl commit suicide, we focus on the individuals state of mind rather than the state of society. We neglect to think of patterns in society that influence such actions. Suicide is strongly influence by social forces emile durkheim. Suicide rates and rates of psychological disorders were not proportionate. He argues that these rates vary bc of differences in degree of social solidarity o. The more social interaction and shared beliefs lead to more social solidarity therefore more anchored to cocial world less likely to commit suicide.
