Through socialization, discourse becomes so strong, some people cannot think otherwise. Sex: bio characteristics that include sex chromosomes, primary sex characteristics, & secondary sex characteristics. Dualism: contrast between two opposing categories (male & female) Gender: expected & actual thoughts, feelings, behaviours associated with a particular sex, within a certain culture at a given point in time: socially determined. Femininity: thoughts/feelings/behaviours associated with being female: equated with passivity, kindness, shyness, sensitivity, loyalty, compassion. Masculinity: thoughts/feelings/behaviours associated with being male: equated with action, aggression, independence, dominance, athleticism, self- reliance. Heterosexuality: sexual attraction to members of opposite sex. Homosexuality: sexual attraction to members of same sex: both homo & hetero are dependent of view that sex is only two sexes (female & male) More accurate to think of sexes as spectrum not dualism. Two-spirited: indiv who have both male & female spirits.
