Economists de nition of work: activity that produces good or service for the market. Work: human e ort that ads use value to goods and services. Use value - means that what is produces has some value - not necessarily economic - but rather personal and/or social value for us (ecompases paid work and domestic work) Applies equally to work done legally and illegally. Sociology - study of human society - particularly societal institutions, social groups, and processes of social change. How work is organized and how it relates to other social institutions. Joan scott - argues that gender is a constitutive element of social relationships based on perceived di erences between the sexes and gender is a primary way of signifying relationships of power. Class from marxian perspective - is the point of production: whether one worker or an owner is the main determinant of class.
