Randal collins has revised durkheim"s capacity of rituals and symbols to generate social bonds and solidarity" idea with his own theory of micro-level interaction. He says that when people are in social settings they focus their attention on the same things, and their moods and feelings sync. Defines this as emotional entrainment when social interaction (in small groups, with family/friends) is enhanced by people attuning their emotional states together. Collective effervescence when a feeling of group membership can energize and invigorate you.
