Theories of social disorganization- durkheim, thrasher and shaw and mckay: Durkheim and social integration: communities characterized by poverty, physical deterioration and racial/ ethnic conflict were too disorganized to exert effective control over behaviour of residents, social bonds- degree which individual has ties to society. Ivan nye: expanded reiss- dev technique measuring self-reported del rather than court records. Hirschi and the social bond: causes of delinquency- more likely turn illegit means if bonds to society are weak/ broken= 4 aspects (below) linked social bonds constrain behav. Attachment: attachment- degree individ has affective ties to other persons. Hirschi"s theory: sensitive feelings others and close others constrain behav b/c don"t want to hurt/ embarrass people like, lacking not consider feelings others and free to deviate, don"t get along w parents more free delinquency those close. Commitment: commitment- degree individ pursues conventional goals. Involvement- degree which individ active in conventional activities.
