Document Summary
Chapter 24: one way analysis of variance: comparing several. The issue when we have more than 2 samples to compare: with the techniques we"ve learned so far we only know how to do multiple hypothesis tests for 2 groups at a time, e. g. 2 groups may test to be statistically different but it may not be statistically significant when we have 3 groups to test (variability between the 3 groups there is always going to be a maximum or minimum) The more groups we have, we expect a larger gap between the smallest: multiple comparisons can be dealt with instead by: and largest groups, overall test for all parameters, follow up analysis. Analysis of variance idea: compares the variation due to specific sources with the variation among individuals who should be similar. Anova tests whether several populations have the same mean by comparing: how far apart the sample means are, how much variation there is within samples.
