Approach measures social climate in settings, which affects social relationships and organizational functioning. Based on 3 primary dimensions that characterize any setting: how they organize social relationships, how they encourage personal development, and their focus on maintenance or change in the setting. Concerns mutual supportiveness, involvement, and cohesion of its members. Looks for evidence of relationships qualities in each setting (participation, amount of support they perceive, extent of affiation or friendships) Conceptually related to kelly"s principles of interdependence and cycling of resources. Concerns whether individual autonomy, growth, and skill development are fostered in setting. Concerns settings" emphasis on order, clarity of rules/expectations, control of behaviour. Ward assessment scale examines who makes decisions in the health care unit/whether rules are explicit. Family environment scale examines extent of control exerted by parents.
