PS282 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Kurt Lewin
Document Summary
We tend to minimize contextual factors and overlook ecological levels of analysis. Most of us tend to notice aspects of environments most clearly when we are new to a particular setting. Kurt lewin: behaviour is a function of person and environment. The unit of analysis is conceptualized as an environmental setting. Settings may be pjhysical or social and can be nested within levels of analysis (ex microsystem) Some models can be used at multiple levels. Others fit one or two levels at best. Principles about the characteristics of settings, not individuals but factors can influence individuals: interdependence: Social systems have multiple related parts/multiple relationships with other systems. In public school, interdependent components include students, teachers, staff, taxpayers etc: cycling of resources: Any system can be understood by examining how resources are used, distributed, conserved and transformed. Personal resources: individual talents, knowledge, experiences that can address challenges in a setting.
