PS282 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Program Evaluation
Document Summary
One of major tools are meta analytic techniques which compare statistical findings of all qualitative studies done on given topic. For experimental study of prevention program, meta analysis computes statistical estimate of effect size: the strength of the effect of that intervention (independent variable) on the chosen outcomes (dependent variable) Average strength of the effect is presented as statistic between 0 and 1. Qualitative analysis in addition to quantitative approach taken by meta analysis. Focus = studying specific type of program empirically shown to be effective across multiple settings and finding procedures that effective programs of that type have in common. Some conducted through review of available research, others involve actual site visits. Principles of effective prevention/promotion programs: theory driven and evidence based. Programs have theoretical justification, address risk/protective factors, empirical support: comprehensive. Provide multiple interventions in multiple settings to address interrelated goals: appropriately timed.
