Project safe program was small group intervention targeting minority women diagnosed w an std in a public health clinic and goals were to decrease risky sex behaviours/subsequent infection. 3 group sessions focusing on education regarding behaviours, motivation to change them, and development of specific skills needed to engage in protective sexual behaviours. Ex how to identify barriers to condom use and how to talk to partners about sex. Also encouraged to talk to others in their lives about what they"re learning to build support network. 2 year follow up showed women who received intervention were less likely to have more than 1 sex partner and to acquire new std. Program is theoretically based and developed using aids risk reduction model theory. What began as explicit aids prevention focus is actually functioning as health promotion program.
