12 views2 pages
MATURE CONNECTIVE TISSUE: Bone Tissue
Bone Tissue
Bones (organs) with 3 connective tissue:
o Bone (osseous) tissue, periosteum, endosteum
MATURE CONNECTIVE TISSUE: Liquid Connective Tissue
Liquid Connective Tissue
Blood Tissue
o Connective tissue with liquid ECM (blood plasma)
Lymph
Elements of Blood
Red Blood Cells = erythrocytes
Hematocrit: % (by volume) of formed elements in whole blood
o Biconcave disc:
Increases surface area to volume ratio
Forms rouleaux
Increases flexibility
o No mitochondria/ER/ribosomes/nuclei - Largely cytoskeleton/cytoplasm -
Life span: 120 days
o RBC Cytoplasm: 2/3 water, 1/3 protein (95% is hemoglobin)
White Blood Cells
o Have diff. shaped nuclei + staining properties
o Granulocytes: Neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils
o Agranulocytes: Lymphocytes, monocytes
Platelets (thrombocytes)
No nucleus
Disklike, 2-4 um diameter, look like aggregates in blood smear
Granulocytes:
1. Neutrophils:
50-70% of WBC polymorphonuclear leukocytes
Lysosomal enzymes, bactericidal compounds
Active phagocytes
Breakdown releases chemotaxic signals
