CRIM 2653 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5.1: Reaction Formation, Object Permanence, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Behavioural component ex. people are anxious because there is a genetic component causing anxiety. Personality is shaped in effort to adapt to environmental circumstances ex. the social system can reinforce your anxious behaviour. Pairing of a stimulus and a response, repeated exposure to stimulus provokes predictable responses. A behaviour followed by a reinforcing stimulus results in increased probability of the behaviour occurring again. A behaviour followed by an aversive stimulus results in decreased probability of the behaviour occurring again. A behaviour no longer followed by a stimulus results in decreased probability of the behaviour occurring again. + reinforce strengthens behaviour when it is presented / - reinforce strengthens behaviour when it is withdrawn. Identify target behaviours -> identify problematic behaviour using problematic behaviour inventory (pbi) Environmental conditions -> determine what social/cultural events are associated with triggering conditions that trigger the behaviour, using triangulation. Mapping antecedents -> define who/what/where/when triggers problematic behaviours, using mapping.
