Document Summary

Frequency: the number of wavelengths in a given period (per second) the more wavelengths in a second, the higher the frequency & higher the pitch. Pitch: highness or lowness of a tone depending on the frequency (short/long wavelength) Decibels: measure of sound (20 decibels, whisper. Outer ear: visible part of ear, send sound waves through auditory canal and to the eardrum. Middle ear: after the ear drum, the pistol of 3 tiny bones (hammer, anvil & stirrup) that take the vibrations of the eardrum into the cochlea"s oval window. Cochlea: coiled, bony, uid lled in inner ear. Vibrations cause uid to create waves to electrical impulses on axons connecting to auditory nerve. Sensorineural hearing loss: most common hearing loss, damage to cochleas" receptor cells or auditory nerves. Conduction hearing loss: less common form of hearing loss, damage to the mechanical system that conducts sound waves to the cochlea.
