Nature of stress: stress: any circumstances that threaten or are perceived to threaten one"s well- being and that thereby tax one"s coping abilities. Stress as an everyday event: many factors affect the nature of any individual"s reactions to stress. Made when you view an event as stressful: ex. primary appraisal determines whether you felt the psychology exam as stressful. Secondary appraisal would determine how stressful the exam appeared: some people are more prone to feeling threatened by life"s difficulties. 2: acute stressors: threatening events that have a relatively short duration and a clear endpoint. Ex. dealing with a major exam, having your home threatened by a severe flooding: chronic stressors: threatening events that have a relatively long duration and no readily apparent time limit. Ex. persistent financial strains, ongoing pressures from a hostile boss at work. Frustration: frustration: occurs in any situation in which the pursuit of some goal is thwarted.
