Document Summary

Neurons are individual cells that receive integrate and transmit information. Glial cells are found throughout the nervous system and provide support for neurons. Produce cerebrospinal fluid which cushions the brain. Blood brain barrier which prevents foreign substances from entering the brain. Contribute to the immune system of the brain. Synapse is a junction where information is transmitted from one neuron to the next. Cell body soma contains the nucleus and acts like a tiny factory for proteins and neurotransmitters. Dendrites gather incoming information from other cells , increase sa so that chemicals released from cells can influence the activity of a neuron. Axon is a long thin fibre that transmits signals away from the soma to other neurons or to muscles or glands, conducts brief electrical charge away from the cell body. Axon terminals are where chemicals are released by the neuron to influence the activity of other neurons.
