Incentive theory revolves around external stimuli, not internal like drive theory. Evolutionary theories: motivation comes from natural selection. The range and diversity of human motives: biological (madsen) motives motives pertaining to homeostasis. (food, drink, sex) Social (murray) motives motives pertaining to social experiences. (achievement, dominance, etc. ) People all have same biological motives, but all have different social motives. Insulin secretions play a role in the fluctuations of hunger. Secreted from pancreas: when going w/out food for a while the stomach secretes ghrelin which causes stomach contractions and promotes hunger, after food is consumer, upper intestine releases cck that sends brain signals to stop hunger.
