Old definition was discrepancy between measured ability + whats reasonably expected. Use of process based on childs response to intervention to make diagnosis instead. Response to intervention model: multilevel prevention framework applied in educational settings that is designed to maximize student achievement through the use of data that identifies students at risk for poor leanring outcomes combined with evidence bsed internveitn. Multilevel cause 3 levels of intervention: classroom environment, small group of learners failed to make adequate progress + segregated for special treatment, individually tailored + administered instruction for students. Problem-solving model: refers to use of interventions tailored to students individual needs that are selected by multidisciplinary team of school professionals. Tests to answer rti related questions being developed. Idea mandates that no single measure can be sole criterion for determining wheher a child has disability.
