Institutional facility a group residential setting that provides individuals with medical and/or psychiatric care: hospitals are considered short-termed institutional facilities. Long-term care refers to the entire continuum of care that ranges from receiving in-home help with daily tasks to institutionalized care (both medical and non-medical support) Approximately 15% of home care clients are children and youth. Home care is cost-effective (reduces government health care budgets) It is not insured under the canada health act and governments are not required to pay for it. They agreed to fund home care services for two weeks after discharge from hospital or mental health care center, and for end-of-life care. Adult day programs older adults who need assistance or supervision during the day receive a range of services in a setting that is either attached to another facility (nursing home) or is a stand-alone agency. Respite care provides family caregivers with a break while allowing the older adult to receive needed support services.
