The scientific method: ask a question, research existing sources, formulate a hypothesis, design a conduct a study, draw conclusions, report results, sociological topics are not reduced to right or wrong facts. Interpretive framework (sometimes referred to as an interpretive perspective) seeks to understand social worlds from the point of view of participants, which leads to in-depth knowledge. Interview is a one-on-one conversation between the researcher and the subject. 3 types of field research: participant observation, ethnography, and case study. Participant observation- when a researcher immerses herself in a group or social setting in order to make observations from an insider perspective: allows researcher access to authentic, natural behaviors of group members, cannot get too involved. Institutional ethnography is an extension of basic ethnographic research principles that focuses intentionally on everyday concrete social relationships (often considered a feminist-inspired approach) Important to consider date of publication, attitudes and common cultural ideals that may have influenced the research.
