MGT 500 Chapter Notes - Chapter 17: Telecommuting, Job Sharing, Flextime

19 views2 pages

Document Summary

Work life conflicts grabbed attention from management originally during the 80s. This was because of the workforce"s increased entry of women with dependent children into the workforce. As a response to this, a lot of major organizations did things to make sure their workplaces were more family-friendly: They introduced things like: onsite child care, summer day camps, flextime, leave for school functions, telecommuting, part-time employment. But, organizations quickly realized that conflicts in people"s work and life were not limited to those employees who were female with children. Heavy workloads and more demands of travel were just a few things that made it even more hard for male workers and women who didn"t have children to meet both the responsibilities of their work and personal life. Organizations are still modifying their workplaces with options to schedule their time and benefits to try and accommodate the different needs of the continuously growing diversity in organizations.
