PR 660 Chapter Notes - Chapter 16: Crisis Management, Organizational Behavior
Document Summary
It"s easy to find lists of the types of crisis and response strategies to crisis. However, before scct, there wasn"t a theoretical link between those lists. Meaningful matching is possible only if there is some kind of link between types of crisis and corresponding responses to crisis. Scct came from attribution theory and noninstitutional theory to create this kind of link. Attribution theory explains ow people attribute causes to what happened. The focus is on events that are negative and unexpected. A lot of researchers have stated the applicability of attribution theory because people try to create responsibility for certain crises. Noninstitutional theory says that stakeholders expect organizations to act in certain ways and act in a way that is consistent with expectations and norms of society. Organizations are considered to be legitimate when it shapes to the norms or expectations of society. Legitimate organizations also are judged on worthiness of operating in society while avoiding any problems with stakeholders.
