SOC 100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Rodgers And Hammerstein, Sound Design, Umber
Document Summary
The play, or the text, is the most integral and basic part of theater. A text is anything that can be read, it is not meaningful in and of itself. A play is a form of text, but it has a different expectation of telling you a whole story and is meant to be performed. The play is two-dimensional until the collaborative process occurs. Printing press contributed to the increase of reading plays instead of performing them. A side includes the written lines of only one actor/part of the scene. Read it in one sitting (treat it as if you are watching it) Everything in a play is written to take you on a journey. Notice the title of the play, it gives you information. Remember the play is not meaningful in and of itself. Read a play supericially first, and then again considering the playwright"s choices.
