The revolutions of 1905 and 1917 both represented the discontent of the general population with the government at the time. The 1905 and 1917 revolutions both were sparked by several factors, a dominant one being that the average russian peasant would barely be able to feed himself, not to mention his family. In the petition of the protestors, a document which was written by the peasants: we are beggars, we are oppressed and overburdened with work, we are insulted, we are not looked on as human beings but as slaves . The key word in the excerpt was slave showing that during this time period, Russia was still a country that had not gotten rid of serfdom. Revolutions, one being the participation of russia in the russo-japanese war and world. The more a government does things which are not in the best interest of the people, the less popular it becomes.
