The global war on terror"s response has been military action designed to defeat terrorist groups, which has not been successful. Argument: the alternative approach of deradicalizing terrorists and preventing the process of radicalization in the first place will be more decisive in undermining terrorism. The us"s main goal should be to stop terrorism from growing. Deradicalization programs could help make individuals less dangerous. Most muslim-majority states doubt that the true aim of us counterterrorism is self- protection they believe that the primary goal is to dominate the middle east and weaken and divide the islamic world. Any rehabilitation effort must be based on a clear understanding of what drives people to terrorism in the first place. Terrorists who claim to be driven by religious ideology are often ignorant about islam. Group dynamics are just as important as social grievances. Deradicalization requires finding new sources of social support.
