Freakdom extends far back in western civilization entertainment and big business. People came to have their ideas of normal and abnormal reinforced. Shows tell a story of an elaborate social construction that utilized performance, fabrication and deep cultural beliefs. Show capitalized on eagerness of rubes to gawk at freaks.
